Full Summary
As the 10th anniversary of the Brexit vote approaches, the economic impact on Britain is evident. Although initial predictions of an immediate recession did not materialize, the long-term effects have been detrimental.
Experts, including former Bank of England deputy governor Charlie Bean, confirm that the UK economy is smaller than it would have been, with trade suffering and business investment stagnating. Productivity growth has also stalled, resulting in families being thousands of pounds worse off annually.
Factors such as the Covid pandemic and geopolitical tensions have complicated the economic landscape, but the consensus remains that Brexit has led to significant costs for households and businesses.
