Show HN: Adrafinil – keep a lid-closed Mac awake only while agents work
TL;DR
When a Mac is closed, it typically goes to sleep, which can interrupt ongoing tasks. Adrafinil is a tool that keeps a Mac awake while the lid is closed, only activating when an agent is working.
✦ Why It Matters
Engineers can use Adrafinil to enhance productivity without compromising energy efficiency in Mac systems.
Key Takeaways
- Implement Adrafinil for task-specific wakefulness.
- Reduce unnecessary power consumption during idle times.
- Monitor task status to optimize machine performance.
- Explore eugeroics for other productivity enhancements.
Full Summary
Many users face the issue of their Mac going to sleep when the lid is closed, disrupting ongoing processes. Adrafinil is introduced as a solution, functioning as a eugeroic, which means it promotes wakefulness but only activates when a specific task is being performed.
Unlike traditional stimulants like Caffeinate and Amphetamine that keep the machine awake indefinitely, Adrafinil allows the Mac to stay awake only for the duration of active work. This is achieved by monitoring the status of the agent's tasks and ensuring the machine remains operational only when needed.
Once the last session is completed, Adrafinil clears, allowing the Mac to enter sleep mode. This approach optimizes power usage while ensuring productivity during critical tasks.
