Raspberry Pi 5 – 16 GB, $350
TL;DR
Previous Raspberry Pi models lacked sufficient processing power and peripheral support for advanced applications. The Raspberry Pi 5 features a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor, USB 3.0 ports, and enhanced I/O capabilities.
✦ Why It Matters
Engineers can leverage the Raspberry Pi 5's enhanced performance and connectivity for advanced projects and applications.
Key Takeaways
- Upgrade to Raspberry Pi 5 for better CPU and graphics performance.
- Utilize USB 3.0 for faster data transfer with peripherals.
- Explore dual 4K display capabilities for advanced projects.
- Leverage PCIe 2.0 for high-speed peripheral connections.
Full Summary
The Raspberry Pi 5 is the latest iteration of the popular single-board computer, featuring a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, which delivers a 2-3x increase in CPU performance compared to the Raspberry Pi 4. It includes 16GB of RAM, USB 3.0 ports, and an upgraded Gigabit Ethernet chip with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability.
The device supports dual 4K displays and has a rearchitected Image Signal Processor for improved camera support. Additionally, it introduces a PCIe 2.0 interface for high-bandwidth peripherals, significantly enhancing its I/O capabilities.
This redesign means that cases from the Raspberry Pi 4 will not fit the new model, necessitating new accessories.
