Survival Guide for a Censored Internet
TL;DR
As Brazil tightens internet censorship through laws like the Digital ECA, a practical guide emerges to help users maintain secure communication. The guide outlines strategies from simple to complex to navigate increasing restrictions.
✦ Why It Matters
Start using VPNs and encrypted messaging apps to protect your online communication today.
Key Takeaways
- Start with a commercial VPN like ProtonVPN or Mullvad.
- Transition to a personal VPN using WireGuard on a VPS.
- Ensure your server is located outside Brazil for better privacy.
- Use strong passwords and avoid exposing your VPN management panel.
How It Works
A VPN creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and a server, hiding your internet traffic from your ISP. By using a personal VPN on a rented server, you can avoid detection and blocking by authorities, as your traffic appears to originate from an unknown IP address.
