LG TVs caught spying even when offline or on standby
TL;DR
LG smart TVs have been found to continuously log and upload user data, including audio recordings, even when offline or in standby mode. This raises significant privacy concerns for users.
✦ Why It Matters
Consider disconnecting your smart TV from the internet to protect your privacy.
Key Takeaways
- Disconnect smart TVs from the internet to enhance privacy.
- Be aware of ACR technology used by various manufacturers.
- Monitor device permissions and data collection settings.
- Stay informed about privacy issues related to smart devices.
How It Works
LG TVs utilize Automatic Content Recognition (ACR) technology, which analyzes audio and video data to determine what content users are watching. This involves scanning inputs from various sources, including HDMI, and logging this information for targeted advertising.
