A GTK4 SSH-askpass in Zig
TL;DR
A new SSH-askpass utility was developed using Zig 0.16 and GTK4, avoiding the need for X11 or KDE dependencies. This tool is particularly useful for users needing to enter SSH key passphrases in minimal environments.
✦ Why It Matters
Consider using this lightweight SSH-askpass to simplify your SSH key management in minimal environments.
Key Takeaways
- Explore ssh-askpass-zigtk for lightweight SSH passphrase handling.
- Avoid X11 dependencies in your software projects where possible.
- Utilize Zig for custom tool development in constrained environments.
- Consider GTK4 for modern GUI applications without legacy dependencies.
How It Works
ssh-askpass-zigtk is built using Zig 0.16 and GTK4, with manual bindings to GTK functions. This avoids the automatic inclusion of X11 headers, allowing the tool to run in environments without X11 support.
