Getting 25 Gbps Thunderbolt Ethernet on My Mac Studio
TL;DR
A cost-effective 25 Gbps Thunderbolt Ethernet solution was developed for Mac Studio, significantly improving network performance. The project involved custom cooling solutions to manage heat from the NIC.
✦ Why It Matters
Consider upgrading your network hardware and cooling solutions for better performance.
Key Takeaways
- Explore budget-friendly Thunderbolt adapters for high-speed networking.
- Update software like iperf3 to maximize network performance.
- Implement active cooling solutions for overheating NICs.
- Test real-world speeds to evaluate performance improvements.
How It Works
The project utilized a server-grade OCP 2 NIC with a Thunderbolt adapter, allowing for high-speed data transfer. Custom cooling was implemented using a Noctua fan and duct design to manage heat effectively.
