What Zig felt like, coming from Rust
TL;DR
A Rust developer explored Zig by reimplementing JSONPath, discovering significant differences in IDE support and tooling. The experience highlighted the simplicity of command-line interfaces.
✦ Why It Matters
Consider using command-line tools for a more straightforward development experience in less-supported languages.
Key Takeaways
- Explore command-line tools for a more straightforward development experience.
- Adopt a flatter file structure to simplify project organization.
- Be cautious with manual memory management to avoid leaks and corruption.
- Evaluate Zig's libraries for maturity before starting new projects.
How It Works
Zig's build system simplifies testing and project management through commands like 'zig build test', allowing for efficient execution of tests and compliance checks.
